On the Brink of something pedestrian

In a perfect world, dog-housed Bomber QB Steven Gyles would be on the brink of a 6 game winning streak today against the BC Lions.

Instead, he holds the clipboard while head coach Paul LaPolice sends a Brink (Bomber QB Alex) to his own near-death experience.

And that's because anyone forced to execute LaPolice's unimaginative, predictable game plan might as well be toe-tagged and embalmed prior to stepping out on the field.

The litany and larceny of LaPolice's latest league losses leave no one but Mr. LaPolice himself to blame for the Bombers 3-10 record.

By way of evidence, a quick summary of the Bomber's last-minute offense in the last few games goes like this:

How about the call for Gyles to throw into triple coverage 38 yards down field on a 2nd and 4 with 1:40 left on the clock against Montreal a few weeks ago when all they needed was a few more first downs to kick a winning field goal?

How about the decision not to kick a field goal against the Argos with over four minutes in the clock in mid-September? (The field goal would have put the Blue one point behind and placed the game on the shoulders of the highly-touted defense.)

How about the most dreary set of play calls in the entire second half last weekend at Empire?

Clearly, Mr. LaPolice has bitten off more than he can chew and should look at benching himself from duties as the offensive coordinator. Because, if he can't judge talent, ability and success in his coaching staff, he won't be holding either job next year.

Good luck Alex, you're one set of plays away from replacing Gyles on the sidelines, especially if you actually follow Mr. LaPolice's game plan.

Perhaps you can work some magic with your feet and ad lib a few QB sneaks - if not, prepare your place on the ever growing list of has-been QB's mentored under offensive coordinator / head coach Paul LaPolice.
